Confession: I get discouraged easily…like most people! The reason why spending time alone with God every day might come a little more easily for me is simply because I know how desperately I need to be encouraged by God and His Word every day of my life! I assume I'm not the only one. Today, God reminded me of some great words from His Word that can give us some specific steps to take when we are discouraged: "Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil" Proverbs 4:25–27 (NLT).
In other words, when I get discouraged, God says something like this to me:
"Shawn, don't get sidetracked by all the peripheral stuff. What is the main goal here? What is your calling? Stay focused on the main thing. Don't get sidetracked by all that you don't know. What do you KNOW about my will? Get busy doing THAT. In the meantime, stay holy. I can't bless or speak in the midst of disobedience. Stay pure. Keep from evil. Don't make any rash big decisions while you're discouraged. Stay on the path you are on. This will pass. It always does. No, don't quit. Never quit in a dip. Keep your eyes on me. I can handle this. I got your back. You do what's right in the right way. Stay the course. I'll take care of the rest. Do you trust me to do that?"
That's basically what God says to me when I get discouraged. Hope it helps you today!
