COURAGE.

The next superhero movie comes out today. Millions (including the Lovejoys) will go see it. Here's my question: Why do we love Superhero and suspense thriller movies so much? I'll give you one word: COURAGE. We love watching a could-be-hero overcome their fears, and in doing so, save the day. However, courage is not something only needed in the movies! I feel the same way about courage in the real world.

As a leader, if there's one trait needed more than any other, it's COURAGE. When the apostle Paul asked the church to pray for him, he said:

"Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly (italics mine) make known the mystery of the gospel" Ephesians 6:19 (NIV)

This word "fearlessly" is translated as the same word used to describe Peter and John in Acts 4:13:

"When they saw the courage (boldness, fearlessness, courage) of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus."Acts 4:13 NIV

Of course, later, this is what the entire church prayed for:

"Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness." Acts 4:29 (NIV)

So how? Well, our COURAGE will only be as great as our FAITH. We must believe that where God calls, He propels and sustains. The writer of Hebrews had this to say:

"And without faith it is impossible to please God...." Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)

Are you getting the picture? Courage. Faith. These are the traits that should mark the life of every Christian leader. How does your courage need to grow? How does that need to manifest in your life work or ministry?

Our courage will only be as great as our faith. Today, ask God to give you the COURAGE TO LEAD. Wow, that would make a great name for a ministry one day :)
