It’s been said that life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond. I don’t know if the percentages are completely accurate, but I completely agree with the sentiment. This is especially true when it comes to our ability to experience joy. I believe joy is the most powerful choice we could make today. Why? I’ll give you several reasons.
Joy filters our language.
What we say is either life-giving or life-draining. When we are filled with joy, it impacts what we say. Gratitude, compliments, and laughter replace negativity, complaining, grumbling, and criticism.
Joy is attractive and magnetic.
Who wants to be around someone so negative. Everyone loves to be around someone who has joy in their life. If we want to be a leader that attracts great leaders around us, we will be more successful in doing so, if we are a person that’s fun to be around. Joy attracts the best talent!
Joy is a decision, not a circumstance.
We are not a victim. We should stop throwing the pity party. Bad things happen to good people. We don’t need to know why. We just need to know what to do next. Choose joy. We will choose to get bitter or better. We are commanded by God to CHOOSE joy: “Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again -- rejoice!” Phil 4:4 NLT
Joy is a demonstration of God’s living inside of us.
Joy is a fruit (byproduct) of the Spirit. This means that if we claim to be a Christian, one of the first things people out to notice about us... is our joy level. Perhaps the greatest way to demonstrate what Jesus means to us and has done in us and for us... is to be joyful!
So pause right now... and choose... joy.
Now, go get ‘em!
