One of my life verses since entering the ministry, has been this verse: "But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God" Acts 20:24 (NLT).
I could not feel stronger about any personal conviction than this one. I really do feel like my life is worthless unless I am living out God's call for my life. Believe it or not, I am not in ministry because it's fun. Oh, yes, parts of ministry can be fun...but ministry is also hard! I did not enter vocational ministry because I thought it would be fun. I did so and continue to do so because I am called!
I also don't do ministry because it's rewarding. Don't get me wrong, ministry is rewarding. There's no greater feeling than the one I had last Sunday as dozens stood in our services indicating their desire to give their lives to Jesus Christ in our services. There's nothing more rewarding than what I witnessed this past Sunday night, when 37 students went public with their faith through baptism in our Student services. I'm just saying that I don't do ministry because it's rewarding. I do ministry because I am called!
There's nothing clearer in this world to me than the call I received from God. I have been given a task: the task of testifying of the Good News about Jesus Christ to those turned off on God and the church. What keeps me going? The call!
What about you? Do you know what your call is?
How does God's call impact and sustain you on a weekly basis? Would love to hear from you on this...
