In this series of posts, I'm sharing how I get more done. Here's are the next couple of secrets as to how I get more done. These secrets have actually been implemented into my life as a direct result of my study of the life and ministry of Jesus: "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed." Mk 1:35 (NIV) What I have learned from Jesus about how to get more done?
I get up early.
"Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up..." Why did Jesus get up so early? He intentionally got up before everyone else, so He could pursue the priorities God had placed on His life, without distractions and interruptions! Most days, I get up at 5 AM. Some days I get up at 4! I don't get up this early because I'm a morning person. I'm not. I get up at that early, because it's CRAZY at our house from 6:30-8:30AM! From 7 AM on, I will pull my weight around the house: I will actually prepare breakfast for the kids, brush their teeth, take out the trash, and then take the kids to school.
However, at 5AM, my house is quiet as a mouse. There are no interruptions. My brain is fresh. I start my day then. Now, most weeks, I put in 50-60 hours of work. However, I almost NEVER work past 5-5:30 PM. I go home to be with my family! To do this, and get all of my work done, however, I have to find this extra time; so I get up early. Now connect the dots on the other end: to get up early, and still get 6-7 hours of sleep, I go to bed earlier than a lot of people. I can't remember the last time I caught the late night talk shows. I go to bed earlier, so I can get up earlier, and I start my day long before daylight. That's one way Jesus got so much accomplished in three years. Early bird gets the worm; or early bird saves the world, in His case. I pray that he might use me in the same way! I want to get more done for the sake of the Gospel!
What do I do, getting up that early? That's for the next post.
What about you? What time do you get up?
What time do YOU get started with your work?
What time do you quit?
