Assaulting Our Anxiety... with Gratitude

More blessing from God won’t solve all of our problems. In fact, more blessing comes with more responsibility, more complexity, and often times more anxiety! If we’re not careful, we can allow the blessings of God can rob us from the peace of God!

How can we assault our anxieties and experience God’s peace? God has placed the answer there in front of us in black and white:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6 (NIV)

How do we assault our anxiety? “With Thanksgiving.” In fact, God goes on to say that when we daily approach Him with a grateful heart, look at His promise:

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 (NIV)

What is God telling us in all of this?

If we want to experience the PEACE of God that transcends all understanding, we must lean into the discipline of gratitude. We must choose to be grateful!

You may have heard me say before that there are optimists and realists. Do you know what a  realist is? A pessimist in denial!  That used to be me! Not anymore. I have LEARNED to CHOOSE to be a more positive, thankful person and it has greatly impacted my leadership. Our attitude is a choice.

One of the simple but profound practices I began some time ago is beginning each day by writing down two things for which I am grateful for from the day before. This simple practice allowed me to begin every day with gratitude!

It's impossible to be critical and grateful at the same time. Tweet This

Thanksgiving is not a feeling. It’s a choice and a command, with a powerful promise: peace!  So today, take a few moments to express THANKSGIVING to God. Get ready. Can you feel it coming? PEACE.
